This Changes Everything
In Luke 6:12–26, Jesus continues revealing the disruptive newness of God’s kingdom. After spending the night in prayer, he appoints twelve apostles, signaling that God is redefining His people not by ancestry but by allegiance to Jesus. As crowds gather and experience healing and freedom, Jesus begins teaching what life in this new kingdom looks like through the blessings and woes. He declares that the truly blessed are not the powerful or comfortable, but those who are poor, hungry, grieving, or rejected for his sake—people who live in humble dependence on God and long for more of Him. At the same time, he warns that wealth, comfort, approval, and self-sufficiency can quietly replace trust in God. Through this upside-down vision, Jesus invites his disciples to find their identity, hope, and blessing not in present circumstances but in the transforming presence of the King and the coming fullness of his kingdom.
