Church Property
& Building History

Each phase of building and expansion at Fellowship Church reflects a commitment to meeting the needs of the congregation and community, creating spaces dedicated to worship, teaching, and fostering community unity in Christ.

1987-1988: Beginnings at CAK Library

Initially meeting as a house church, Fellowship Church began gathering in the Christian Academy of Knoxville (CAK) library. Each Sunday, members would set up the room, storing items in an onsite shed.

October 1988 - October 1994: Farragut Middle School

As the church grew, it moved to the cafeteria of Farragut Middle School, where the cafeteria and classrooms were used for children’s ministry and adult “circle groups.” Fellowship also rented office space in Farragut for administrative needs.

August 9, 1990: Acquisition of Middlebrook Pike Property

Fellowship Church purchased a 16.09-acre plot at 8000 Middlebrook Pike from Evelyn Sims for $245,000. After making a $50,000 down payment, the remaining note was paid off before construction began.

July 1993 - October 1994: First Building Construction

Construction began on a 36,000-square-foot building, featuring a worship center and two educational wings for children and adult ministries. Fellowship’s first worship service in the new space took place on October 9, 1994. Remarkably, the building was fully paid for as it was built.

July 25, 1996: Expansion with Additional Land Purchase

To accommodate future growth, Fellowship purchased an additional 7.75 acres east of the original property from Fellowship Development LLC for $218,832. This land was held by a group of Fellowship members who formed a development LLC to ensure its availability for the church, with some donating part of their investment.

August 1997 - Fall 1998: New Worship Center

During Fellowship’s 10-year anniversary celebration on August 24, 1997, the church broke ground on a new worship center with a seating capacity of 1,223 (1,409 with additional loose seating). This expansion added 49,000 square feet, including a lobby, courtyard, office spaces, and adult education rooms. The original worship center was transformed to serve middle school (The Garage) and high school ministries, while the children’s area was remodeled for larger gathering spaces. Colossians 3:12-17 was buried in the worship center floor, dedicating the space to God’s glory and the teaching of His Word.

2019-2020: The Surge Initiative Expansion

Under the Surge Initiative, Fellowship added another 27,000 square feet. This included a dedicated area for middle and high school with breakout rooms, a relocated Counseling Center, and extended classrooms with a new secure entrance and check-in area. While the space opened in October 2020, COVID restrictions delayed its full use until later.
