JANUARY 10 - 30

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”
Acts 1:8

An Invitation to 21 Days of Prayer & Fasting

Beginning January 10, our church family will enter a season of prayer and fasting, petitioning God for our lives to be marked by radical, transformative, answered prayer. Click below to subscribe to our weekly newsletter and follow along each day on the Trellis Podcast.

Fasting creates an expectation for the great work of God.

“While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, ‘Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.’ Then after fasting and praying they laid their hands on them and sent them off." Acts 13:2-3

In his book A Hunger for God, John Piper writes: “If we don’t feel strong desires for the manifestation of the glory of God, it is not because you have drunk deeply and are satisfied. It is because we have nibbled so long at the table of the world. Our soul is stuffed with small things, and there is no room for the great.”

During the month of January, our congregation will begin the new year with a focus on and an expectation for the great things of God.

Daily Prayer Podcast

We hope you will join  us on the Trellis Podcast for a daily podcast experience designed to lead you through a morning meditation, a reading of scripture, and a sacred moment of prayer.

Our sincere desire is that these moments of reflection and contemplation will help you walk alongside brothers and sisters in Christ as we seek to more fully experience what is offered through the promised indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

Why Should We Fast?

Fasting was an expected discipline in both the Old and New Testaments. In Matthew 6, Jesus speaks of fasting by saying, “When you fast…”

Jesus fasted for 40 days and nights to prepare for His calling (Mark 1). The early church fasted when they needed God’s wisdom (Acts). The Israelites fasted as a sign of grief (Nehemiah 1) and repentance (Jonah 3). They fasted when they were desperate for God’s protection and deliverance  (Ezra 8) and when they were dependent on His intervention for victory over their enemies (Judges 20).

Fasting returns us to our first love, teaches us to walk in humility, reveals the places of brokenness in our lives, and attunes us to the Holy Spirit. It enables us to know God and walk with Him in intimacy.
